The Returns

Sean says at 11:07pm
Holy shit. Obama is #44. Holy shit.

Carol says at 10:47pm
What the fuck is going on with the CNN holograms? Am I offended or just annoyed?

Sean says at 10:20pm
I asked myself in the last two Presidential elections how the popular vote could be so close when the choices were so stark, so different, the records of the candidates so laughably disparate. I know we all feel, as voters, that we and the people most like us are the only ones who really know what's going on, who really know what's good for this country. That's just subjectivity of course. But thankfully we have logic and facts at our disposal. Those should be enough to banish the very idea of "conservatism" to the trash bin of history, I'd say, but as we've seen time and again... they are not. George Lakoff can verify that. Facts don't sway voters because there's no visceral connection to them for us as human beings, as biological creatures who understand much of our world in the form of metaphors, metaphors we base on our personal, physical experiences. It's very difficult to attach any sort of sense of importance to mere numbers and statistics. The Far Right has known this for a long time. And they've used this to good (well, bad) advantage for years now. Obama seems to be the first Dem candidate in a decade to realize the importance of connecting with people, with voters. Also, McCain is 9 million years old and his running mate's a retard with a beehive hairdo.

Carol says at 10:18pm
Oprah has arrived...whatever that means.

Carol says at 10:10pm
Dear The South,
You are better than this. No one else thinks so, mind you, but I do.

Sean says at 10:04pm
I think Obama should deliver John McCain's concession speech for him.

Carol says at 9:56pm
Am seriously about to freak out right now. All I can think of is Obama's girls...if he wins — if their daddy wins — how awesome is that for them? Can't even stand it. They were part of an election that has seen the first potential black president and the first potential woman president. How badass are they going to be when they grow up?

Sean says at 9:31 pm
Ok, Carol. Let's just calm down. That's with only %15 reporting. Republicans like to have a lot of babies. They could easily have increased their breeding over the last couple hours and made a bunch more babies who will all vote McCain. Because life is sacred Carol. And so is voting against your interests.

Carol says at 9:25pm
Ohio is Obama!!! For reals???? EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!

Carol says at 9:05pm
Can someone please tell Chris Matthews not to call the south "the Confederacy"?

Carol says at 9:02pm
Nothing earth-shaking yet. The too close to calls are promising, but I was hoping for a bit of an upset by now. The biggest news so far as that anyone still puts Tom Delay on the air.

Carol says at 8:50 pm

Ignore that it is a hipster political shirt...I didn't have an Obama one. One makes do. 15 states close in 10 minutes.

Carol says at 8:41 pm

Olbermann chose a stylish pink tie for election night. It says, "I'm neither red, nor blue, nor purple...I AM KEITH. KEITH SMASH."

Sean says at 8:36 pm

Electoral votes are now 103 to 58. Barack's ahead in Florida. And Leon's getting laaaaaarrrrrger.

Carol says at 8:31 pm
Lizzie Dole is out. That's kind of awesome. Also, Chris Matthews just asked a McCain adviser if he thinks Obama is a socialist. Alabama just went to McCain. I'm very disappointed in you...all of you. But I know my brother voted for Obama, so we tight.

Carol says at 8:25 pm

What is wrong with West Palm Beach, Florida? Their ballots are as confusing as pregnancy tests.

Sean says at 8:20 pm

I'm stuck doing my TV Without Pity vlog tonight. Everything I've shot so far has lizz and her guests shouting or talking loudly in the background ON TOP of Chris Matthews already booming throat gargles. Hopefully enough will be audible for use, or Matthews will get throat leprosy. Either or.

Carol says at 8:11 pm
My politically hooked-up brother says that his Democratic peeps who are "in the know" say it's going to be a blow-out. I am reserving my delight until we absolutely know. Still terrified.

Sean says at 8:06 pm
If Alabama goes for Obama, Carol just told Lizz she would take a celebratory "dump" on her floor because QUOTE That's how we do. END QUOTE.

Carol says at 8:04 pm
Pennsylvania goes Obama! But the biggest win for me is that Alabama is too close to call. WOOOHOOOO!
