Friday Sketch Pad™

There's a movement in the online comic and art world today. Lots of folks have been producing videos and blogs based on a HOW-TO theme of their craft. Well, we at Fake Rockstar Conglomocorp know a band wagon when we see one, so...

Welcome to the Friday Sketch Pad™! An exclusive look into how and where Corey gets his crazy ideas. This is important stuff, folks. If you want to know how a genius gives you beautiful art and hilarious comedy on a daily basis, then you need to pay attention, here.

So, without a further hard sell, here's Corey...

Howdy common folk!

I'm Corey Pandolph, the mastermind behind many of the comics and humor you read everyday. I thought you'd all like to see what goes on behind the scenes of my wild success, so for the first time, I've opened my private sketchbook of ideas and exercises to you, the adoring public.

Let's begin with a little game I like to call "obelisk"...

First, to get the creative juices flowing, I draw a series of circles, not unlike these:

This gives me a base for ideas, at which point I start to ask myself a series of questions: Why circles? Why ten circles? What do ten circles have to with coffee? With my hands? With boogers, or society's struggle with the coming collapse of civilization?

We, in the industry, call this act, "brainstorming".

This goes on for the better part of Monday, Tuesday and possibly into Wednesday, depending on the weight of my social calendar. When I feel I've exhausted all questions to the point of visible anger, I start to add "The Greatness".

Most of you will look at these circles and see a series of characters, maybe a blank canvas for facial expressions of a guy, girl, or even a favorite pet. Well, this is where you learn why I'm the critically acclaimed artist and you are merely the fans. I take your simple concept of "funny faces" and I push it further. I not only take it outside of the box, but I run with the box, add a pipe bomb and throw the box over the side of the observation deck of the Empire State Building, blowing the box up all over the vanilla, minutia that is the unsuspecting public.

You see 10 separate facial expressions, I see 10 separate kalamata olive expressions:

Do you see what I did there? Do you see how my brain works faster, stronger and better than yours? Don't take it personally, for it is simply what I do.

Now go. Take this golden nugget of comedy genius and make your own circle sketches. Just remember, I'm the one with the talent, always trumping even your best ideas.

And be sure to tune in next Friday, when I teach you all how to draw a lion into an effective economic indicator.

You're welcome,

Corey "Faketh Rockstario" Pandolph
