Oh, Dan Bialek, How we love thee!
"Is it true that a Renaissance abortion is just a flight of stairs and a lady in roller skates?"
This way to heaven.
This way to heaven.
HOW TO AUDITION
Come with me on a maaaagical and very sweaty journey to 4 auditions I had a week or two ago.

Even sad, wannabe superhero guys have to pee
The best photo I've seen from a Comic-Con yet.
I doubt this is the first time he's had that much latex up the ol' wazoo...
The best part is the urinal pads are green like him. Ya think he feels he needs to pee in every one? Just in case his nemesis, the "Red Pilot Light" wants to use them too?
Cut to a few months later, at home (the car):
"Daddy? Is this a picture of you? Why are you dressed like that... All green and tight?"
"That was before Mommy 'realized her mistake', sweety."
Even though green Lantern is still old school cool...
What? I didn't say that.

You know, she only created one of the most important television shows of our generation, but whatevs, if you've got better stuff to do it's cool.
For those of you who fight on the side of the righteous, you can buy your advance tickets by clicking here or by calling 212-524-2500. Be sure to use this promo code to get $5 off the ticket price: DAW89.

A Toast to Andres DuBouchet!
The congratulations mill is in high gear churning out the laurels for our resident NYC conquering heroes. And now beloved and brilliant comedian Andres DuBouchet will be leaving the East Coast to battle West Coast comedy as he goes to work as a writer for the Spike Fereson Show on Fox. He'll be back in December...we hope. If not, we'll know it means he's probably developed a nasty, powder-based habit.

A toast to MATT MCCARTHY!
Matt recently wrote on his blog:
well, it's official
i'm going to the Montreal Comedy Festival for the New Faces show
still at my place in Queens as i type this, going to call a cab to take me to JFK in a minute.
VERY excited.
we weren't allowed to tell anyone, so my appoligies for skipping town and not telling anyone
this isn't very funny.
i'm a fraud.
TO THE AIRPORT!!

Enjoy Montreal, our be-redded friend. You've earned it.
Yours,
Sean
PS I hate you.

Less Than 24 Hours Left To Help Dan Make The Finals

DAW's Dan Bialek currently getting trounced in the semi-finals of an online standup comedy contest, particulary by one contestant who has been invoking the power of Christ in his mass-emails seeking votes.
Voting for this round ends at noon tomorrow. So, if you have a spare 60 seconds and would like to help Dan get to the next round please follow the instructions below. Thanks.
Step #1: Click HERE to register at Famecast.com.
Step #2: Then click HERE to go the comedy page and scroll left or right until my photo comes up and click on the image.
Step #3: Click on “Vote For This Artist” directly below the video window of my video clip.
Step #4: That's it.
If Dan wins he is donating a portion of the cash prize to SaveDarfur.org. So even though he can be kind of a total prick in real-life, rest assured that he's not a selfish total prick.

Overhearsions™: Adirondack edition
Posting form the satellite office in the Adirondack High Peaks. Here's what I've overheard the last few days...
"There's a salve for that..."
"Well, I can tell ya who I haven't fucked in this bar..."
"That's that guy... The one who draws the squiggly lines."
"Guys! I saw Bono at the Waterhole and Moose pinched his ass!"
"Mother fucker"
"Mother pussbucket"
"Fuckin' A. right"
"Life is like a roll of toilet paper... The closer you get to the end, the quicker it goes..."
"Party at the Bigallo. Two bucks a head" (Okay, that one's from High School, but its still a gem)
"You still got that rash? The one what looks like two pigs doin' it?"
And it's only Monday.

Shows 'n shorts abound ye faithful!
Due to technical difficulties, we're sending out this low res, analog newsletter. I know, you're used that sleek digital affair ew usually mail out. It couldn't be helped however. Carol's emailing wrist is acting up and my video-linking knees blew out last week. Aging is tough.
So here is it folks. You have two great shows to make it to this week and some fun videos courtesy of DAW.

1. Tonight is the premier of Shoot the Messenger with Lizz Winstead.
It's a satirical wrap-up of the week’s news from the brain of Daily Show co-creator Lizz Winstead. A live sketch-comedy show incorporating multi-media elements, it gives you the world as seen through the filters of the fictional producers and on-air talent at “24/7” – the worst twenty-four hour cable news network that fiction has to offer.
There will be indictment, both hilarious and scathing - not only of the newsmakers, but of the news media that molds them. Shoot The Messenger will give the audience a glimpse into the behind the scenes decision making at a news network, and the process that brings those decisions to the air.
Of course not everyone in the media gets a flogging; those who are doing great work will be celebrated. Each week Lizz’ll interview a media figure who digs deep and gets it right. They’ll give us the lowdown on the big stories that were buried (or ignored) by our pals of the corporate run media. We’re proud to kick off this segment at our July 9th show with our favorite radio talk show host, Air American Rachel Maddow, and NYU professor, author and media watch dog Mark Crispin Miller
The writers, actors and producers of Shoot The Messenger come from Air America Radio, The Daily Show, and Drink At Work. They represent some of the best political comics and writers working today.

2. As always, every Tuesday night brings you the best of NYC stand up, sketch, and short flims with Time Out New York's CRITIC'S PICK "The Drink At Work Show" (with Sean and Carol)
Due to overlapped bookings and exhaustion however, Carol and Sean are unable to attend their own damn show this week and are handing over the reigns to the very hilarious Matt McCarthy and Lucas Held. And sadly, we had to bid a temporary (we hope!) farewell to long time host and good pal Craig Baldo currently halogen lamping it up at an advertising firm in Portland, Oregon where he is working on the Nike account. Swoosh, Craig. Swoosh.

AND IF YOU'VE GOTTA A HANKER FOR A HUNK OF SHORT FILMS:
1. Continuing off what has been called by several random viewers--and we're paraphrasing here, though closely--the "best iPhone related sketch out of the thousands of iPhone sketches recently released," Sean and Shark Show pal Dan Gaba reprise their roles from last week's original...
...as Sean and Zod, stuck together in what is apparently a Phantom Zone-compatible iPhone. This week and next, three more installments featuring a "kneeling-obsessed" Zod will be released at DOTCOMEDY.com.
2. And if you're in the mood for an old-timey "Sean Crespo Will Teach You Vlogging" vlog, then the recently posted ALL TALENT SHAME JAM detailing Sean's many failed attempts to get into Juilliard should fill you with shaudenfraude... and jam:
And stay tuned later this summer for a whole new batch of original sketches that Carol and I have been cooking up for comedynet.com. Starting in August, every month for at least three months, we'll be releasing four or more new videos shot lovingly in 24 p and rendered with exquisite charm and cheek by some of NYC's finest comedy artists.

Quick Updates Regarding Shows
Hey folks, we've got some great shows coming up at DAW and places elsewhere. This coming Tuesday will be special as our buddies Matt McCarthy and Lucas Held are guest hosting while your regular DAW crew takes a short breather. Here's what they had to say about it:

Guests for the Matt and Lucas-helmed show are Becky Donohue, Adira Amran, Brent Sullivan and awesome sketch group Hot Sauce! Don't miss this show! We'll be back on Tuesday, July 17th when we welcome Tommy Tiernan, Rob Cantrell and Sean O'Conner.
Also next week, don't miss the premiere of Lizz Winstead's new Monday night show at Ace of Clubs, Shoot The Messenger. A live sketch-comedy show incorporating multi-media elements, it gives us the world as seen through the filters of the fictional producers and on-air talent at "24/7" – the worst twenty-four hour cable news network that fiction has to offer. On top of that, each week Lizz will interview a media figure who digs deep and gets it right. This segment kicks off at the July 9th show with radio talk show host, Air American Rachel Maddow, and NYU professor, author and media watch dog Mark Crispin Miller. To reserve seats for this show, send an email with your name and number of tickets requested to reservations[AT]shootthemessengernyc[DOT]com.
And finally, on Monday, July 16th, Crash Comedy premieres at Comix featuring Judy Gold, Tom Shillue, Rob Cantrell and more, more, more! If you never caught this show when it was at Stand Up New York, it's high-time you check it out because it's only gotten bigger and better. Here's the drill: the performers get a call 12 hours before the show and get a topic, then they have that day to write a whole new set which they perform that night. Come see your favorite comics perform an awesome, completely new set (or see them crash and burn). Either way, it's a raucous good time! Get tickets here.
And now here's a video of Lizz's oh-so-sincere apology for canceling on our show two weeks ago.
