An Apology and a Poll for the Comics

Sorry for the lack of updates lately; between getting ready for the last DAW show,
helping out with the GTN pilot, and shooting and editing two, count them TWO,
short films I haven't been able to attend to this page like I normally would. I've
got several days of photos to post, so I'll try to get to them this weekend.

Now, more importantly, I want to take a poll from the New York-based comedians
who visit this blog. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet (maybe it will become
the foundation for some kind of Drink at Work Awards thing...yes, maybe that).
So, comedians, read the questions below and send me an email
with your answers. (Oh, and don't worry...we're not a gossip site, I will keep the
results anonymous.) Thanks in advance!

POLL

1. What's your favorite comedy venue in New York?

2. What's your favorite comedy venue outside of New York?

3. What's your favorite show to attend?

4. What's your favorite show to perform?

5. Best host?

6. Who is your favorite New York comedian (other than you)?

7. Most innovative comic?

8. Most criminally underrated comic?

9. Best comedy writer?

10. Best comedy group/duo/act?

That'll do it for now. Vote or die, kids...vote or die.

May 12, 2006: Drinks with the Comics Curmudgeon
and Sweet Paprika at D-Lounge

Josh Fruhlinger, aka The Comics Curmudgeon...who said you can't make a living out of reading
the entire comics page daily and then posting wry, pithy commentary on the likes of Apt. 3G,
Mary Worth and BC? Josh is a hilarious writer and he and his wife Amber are lovely, fun, charming
people. We got to hang out with them and Amber's super cool brother Micah on Friday. To show
them how we roll, we decided to take them to Allison Castillo and Ophira Eisenberg's awesome
show Sweet Paprika at the elusive D-Lounge. A good time was had by all.

Ces, Josh, Amber and Micah

I think this looks like a still from a movie.

I'm really digging Allison Castillo more and more, plus I'm thrilled that Sweet Paprika has moved
to Fridays. For one thing, the Drink at Work show no longer occasionally competes with it, and
for another, it's a perfect Friday show. It starts at 10:30, so you can have dinner and a few drinks
beforehand. Then mosey over to the show, which is in a beautiful cabaret space but it's also
super casual. It's simultaneously relaxing and otherworldly. Seriously, check it out if you haven't
been there. If you have, go back.

Gilad Foss...have seen his name a bunch, but this was the first time I caught his set. Very good.

Oh, Amanda Melson, you funny, funny lady.

Bob Powers...in green!

Jeff Kreisler, on a rare break from fighting evil.

Corey and Ces share a moment.

On the way home, I walked from Soho to 1st Avenue and then grabbed the bus. Sometimes it's nice to find yourself completely alone in the city.

Incidentally, the Alligator Lounge has free pizza and cheap beer and it is gooooooooood!

Because so few people were there, Maryanne and I tried to help bark for this show, and it
was just as demoralizing as I thought it would be. I learned that I cannot handle rejection.
I believe I yelled at one person, "Don't walk away from me, I'm fucking charming!"
