Central Park, NYC. Very upbeat, excited Tourist Dad to his two young children.
Dad: Hey, let's go to Strawberry Fields...where John Lennon was assassinated!

I'm guessing you didn't bother to point out that Strawberry Fields is in Liverpool.
There's a Strawberry Fields Memorial in Central Park...but in addition to the dad's poor phrasing, that's not where Lennon was "assassinated." It would be like saying "Let's go to Grant's Tomb where he dropped dead!"
It's not far though. The Dakota is on W 72nd just across from the entrance to Central Park that leads to the Strawberry Fields mosaic/plaque/memorial/whatever.
Didn't know that about the memorial, that's interesting.
The "Grant's Tomb" comment makes me think that if a tourist wanted to go to a single location where somebody famous both died and was buried at, then you can't do much better than Graceland.
Finally, let's raise a glass to both the very prematurely fallen John Lennon and cheerfully oblivious tourists everywhere who at least contribute to the local tax revenue. Prost!
Was Lennon "assassinated"? Or was he just a public figure who was murdered?
JFK was assassinated, MLK was assassinated...Tupac and Biggie, them brothers got shot!
