The Play's the Thing (To See this Week)

Of the 220 shows performed in this year’s New York International Fringe Festival, only 16 were selected to extend their runs as part of the FringeNYC Encore Series. Of those plays (all excellent productions, we are told) we strongly suggest you check out the return of Hermanas, Monica Yudovich's hilarious new comedy about Jewish Mexican-Americans living in Texas, complete with a great cast, terrific direction and Miss Universe 2001.

Don't want to take our word for it? Then check out these reviews:

"Hermanas has a soul to it, and it is a fully developed family comedy (not frequently spotted at Fringe). (It) lets one leave the theatre with a warm and fuzzy feeling, much like a member of la familia itself."--Josh Sherman, nytheatre.com

"This delirious array of outsized personalities is so well realized by these amazing performers in Monica Yudovich's play...Claudia Zelevansky's lemonade-crisp direction, equal parts raucous farce and considerate drawing-room comedy, gives the production the verve and fluidity it requires to sail effortlessly from one amusement to another."--Matthew Murray, Talkinbroadway.com

A full schedule of performances (beginning tomorrow, September 5th and ending Tuesday, September 12th) can be found here.

For tickets, go to TicketCentral.com, call 212-279-4200 or buy them in person at Theater Row Box Office.

So come and support a great, creative theatrical production that doesn't start with the phrase "Walt Disney Presents..." and end with someone muttering, "Why do people keep encouraging Elton John?"

Ces,

Speaking as a Texan: fuck off and die.

Love,

Stewart

P.S. That idiot George W. Bush is from New Haven, Connecticut. Stop blaming us for him.

Thanks! I don't even live there anymore, but I get tetchy about the casual insults.

Damn. Looks like I missed the unedited, earlier version, in which Texas was brutally traduced.

Anyway, Stewart: I get it...but even though W. isn't actually from Texas, it would seem that residents of that state actually elected him governor. (Which is, of course, more than can be said truthfully of residents of this country and the office of President.)

Just don't mention that Joe McCarthy's from Wisconsin (where I live) or I will get really angry!

J: Yeah, they did, which was definitely a failing on their parts. Interesting thing about that post, though: the assistant night manager of a McDonald's has more responsibility than the Governor of Texas. It's a shame that the GOP was able to spin the myth of Shrub's competence by saying "See? He was the governor of the second-largest state in the country! Of *course* he's not a complete mouthbreathing moron!" without mentioning that the job basically consists of photo ops. Which, naturally, explains so much about the last six years.

I'd actually read that about the TX gov'ship...but my comment was getting longish anyway. So instead, now there are three comments!
