Carol Hartsell is Only a Man

The Meaning of Life, By Way of Sally Field and Movies About Terrorists...And Something About My Over-Idealization of Men, Too
Carol Hartsell

It has just occurred to me, just now, not a minute ago, how important, definitive and utterly crucial Sally Field's career has been to my life.

Sally Field has also played both Tom Hank's mother and his girlfriend. Fortunately, not in the same movie.

I came here to compliment Carol on another column well done. But then I read yellojkt's comment and caused an involuntary and traumatizing flashback to the beastly bellowing noises that Forrest Gump's mom makes during sex while Forrest waits outside for her to finish. I forget exactly why she's getting it on with that guy; I think it's because otherwise he'll send Forrest to a special school or something. Anyway, I fucking hate that movie. Thanks, yellojkt. Thanks a lot.

Carol... I totally agree with you on the daughter in Steel Magnolias... she was a selfish twit having a baby. She could have adopted a child and lived to raise it. Now that poor baby is motherless and living with that guy who used to be on that lawyer show.

And the other movie I alluded to is Punchline which probably induces the same level of trauma to anyone involved with stand-up comedy. Like Carol.

I am just a ray of sunshine today.

Is it sucking up to say Carol is the best writer of the Drink At Work team? No comment can ever do her essays justice.

"ray of sunshine"

yello, my middle name is Ray and my mom has always said that they named me Carol Ray because I was their "song of joy" and "ray of sunshine"... You can vomit now. But thanks for reminding me of that.

I miraculously haven't seen Punchline, but feel I need to.

My role model is BFF with yours in that movie.
Art & life.
Cute.
Now I’ll have to re-watch that stupid movie this weekend and pretend I’m not crying during the funeral stuff.
Dammit.
