Drink at Work.com Regrets the Error

In a recent post we described--some may even say unwittingly dismissed--the site Welcome to the Blog as "an aggregation of blog links." Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, Welcome to the Blog is...well...why don't I let the author of the site describe it:

I'm not trying to pick a fight with a nationally syndicated comic strip writer but take another look at his comments. "An aggregation of blog links"? That doesn't adequately explain Welcome to Blog's content, now does it? No, sir! This blog is...well, damn. I'm not quite sure either. Is it a blog about Portland, Oregon? Maybe. Is it a pop culture blog? Kinda. Whatever it is, it's not an aggregation of blog links, thank you very much...At least not yet, anyway."

It's also makes for a very enjoyable read.

By the way, if one were to pick a fight, shouldn't it be with a nationally syndicated cartoonist? After all, we're not exactly known for our upper body strength and familiarity with bare-knuckle boxing techniques, Cathy Guisewite being the obvious exception.

---end of quote---

As long as you don't choose Frank Cho, you'll be alright. (Does Monkey Boy still count as syndicated having left the comics page a few years ago?)

MyComics.com has Liberty Meadows as a choice for syndicated strips, so in cyberspace, the Monkey is still being wanked.

How many other syndicated comic strip writers have you met Ces?

Sadly, the number of actual syndicated cartoonists I have met can be counted on a single hand that has seen its fair share of "chopping accidents"--Bil Keane, Bunny Hoest and Mort Walker. All were very nice and exceedingly pleasant to a no-name such as myself. I probably would have a greater chance to hobnob with fellow cartoonists if I were a member of the National Cartoonists Society, but to join you have to be a syndicated comic strip artist or writer/artist, not simply a writer (I may look into becoming an associate member). Maybe when we print the first Medium Large book later this year I can score a booth at some conventions and get quizzical, if not outright condemning, looks from some of my industry heroes.

You forgot the "Zits" guy and his son.

All things considered, nationally syndicated cartoonists are probably better with their fists than obscure NW bloggers like myself. But when it comes to kickboxing...

...ok, nevermind. This whole thing has been dragged out long enough. It's been fun but it's time to smoke the axe and bury the peace pipe. As all the hip kids say, "peace."
